How Offa Robbery Suspect Died In Detention – Nigerian Police

HOW OFFA ROBBERY SUSPECT DIED IN DETENTION – NIGERIA POLICE
The Nigeria Police Force on Thursday said an armed robbery and murder suspect who died in custody “was not murdered, but slumped and died”.
The detained gang leader, Micheal Adikwu, was among those arrested for their alleged roles in the April 5 bank robbery in Offa, Kwara State. Over 20 people were killed in the incident.
Kwara State justice commissioner, Kamal Ajibade had announced the death of Mr Adikwu during the trial of five suspects on trial for the fatal robbery.
Mr Ajibade told the judge that he was informed by the police of Mr Adikwu’s death but was not told how the suspect died.
Many Nigerians including Senate President Bukola Saraki have since criticised the police demanding to know how the suspect died.
Mr Saraki, who had been allegedly named by some of the suspects as their sponsor, demanded a probe of the death. The senate president and the police have repeatedly exchanged words since the arrest of the suspects.
In a statement by police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, on Thursday, the police said the suspect’s death does not absolve Mr Saraki of any wrongdoing.
Mr Moshood said a post-mortem report on Mr Adikwu’s cause of death is available. He, however, did not include any details of the post-mortem report.
“Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs was not murdered but slumped and died in detention while investigation into the Offa Bank Robbery was ongoing. It is also important for the public to know that the deceased Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs was not among the Five (5) gang leaders that indicted and implicated the senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, therefore, his death cannot in anyway vindicate Senator Bukola Saraki. There is a post-mortem examination result in respect of the death of Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs,” the police spokesperson said.

RE- OFFA BANK ROBBERY: SARAKI DEMANDS PROBE OF DEATH OF PRINCIPAL SUSPECT

All Five (5) suspects that indicted and implicated Senator Bukola Saraki, Senate President Federal Republic of Nigeria in the Offa Bank Robbery are alive and now in Court
The Death of Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs (A Dismissed Police Man and an Ex- Convict) a sectional gang leader who confessed to have killed Twenty Two (22) persons including pregnant women and Nine (9) Police personnel during Offa Bank Robbery cannot vindicate the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, the law must take its course.
Evidence from the Five (5) suspects now in Court are enough to prosecute the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki
The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to the innuendo in the media on the death of a sectional gang leader Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs (A Dismissed Police Man and an Ex- Convict) who confessed to have killed Twenty Two (22) persons including pregnant women and Nine (9) Police personnel and carted away of Twenty Two (22) AK 47 Rifles at the Offa Police Divisional Headquarters during Offa Bank Robbery on the 5th April, 2018, it is therefore, imperative that the Nigeria Police Force respond to the publication and set the record straight.
2. The Nigeria Police Force is conversant and mindful of contempt of Court in commenting on cases already before the Court of competent jurisdiction, however, the Force is constraint and compelled to respond to the statement from Mr. Yusuf Olaniyonu, Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and not on the Court processes and proceedings on the case of Offa Bank Robbery for which Five (5) principal suspects are now standing trial in a State High court in Ilorin, Kwara State.
3. For avoidance of doubt, and to correct the insinuations and wrong impressions created by the statement from Mr. Yusuf Olaniyonu, Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki in the minds of members of the public over the indictment and involvement of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki in the case of the Offa Bank Robbery of 5th April, 2018, from the confessions of the Five (5) gang leaders namely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery and the gruesome killing of THIRTY THREE (33) innocent persons, the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki was indicted by the Five (5) suspects who admitted in their confessional statements to the Police investigators that they were political thugs of the Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Bukola Saraki and the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Alh. Abdulfatah Ahmed. 4. The Five (5) gang leaders further confessed during investigation that they are political thugs under the name Youth Liberation Movement a.k.a “Good Boys” they also admitted and confessed to have been sponsored with firearms, money and operational vehicles.
i. Lexus RX 300 Jeep with Reg. KWARA, KWA 143 RM with inscription SARAKI on a sticker attached to the vehicle
ii. Mercedes Benz Compressor Reg. LAGOS, LT 496 KJA, these two (2) Vehicles were used for the Offa Bank Robbery by the Five (5) gang Leaders. The first vehicle was later registered after the Offa Bank Robbery to divert attention while the suspects were in detention. These confessions were made before the media and the public on the 3rd of June, 2018. It is therefore, evidently clear that the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki has case to answer in the whole matter.
7. It was also discovered during investigations that three (3) gang leaders who participated actively in the Offa Bank Robbery (i) Ayoade Akinnibosun aka AY (ii) Ibukunle Ogunleye aka Arrow and (iii) Adeola Abraham followed the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki to Oloffa’s Palace when the Senate President paid a condolence visit to Offa after the Bank Robbery.
8. Further investigation into the matter revealed that all the Five (5) gang leaders namely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran have direct connection to the Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki as a picture of one of the five (5) gang leaders when paraded by the Police was in ‘Aso Ebi’ (trouser) used during the Senate President daughter’s wedding. The Five (5) gang leaders further admitted that they attended the Senate President daughter’s wedding held in Abuja.
9. Consequent on all the above, a thorough and discreet investigation was concluded by the Police into the matter and all the Five (5) gang leaders namely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery that indicted and implicated Senator Bukola Saraki, Senate President Federal Republic of Nigeria in the Offa Bank Robbery are alive and now in Court.

  1. Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs (A Dismissed Police Man and an Ex- Convict) who confessed to have killed Twenty Two (22) persons including pregnant women and Nine (9) Police personnel and carted away of Twenty Two (22) AK 47 Rifles at the Offa Police Divisional Headquarters during Offa Bank Robbery on the 5th April, 2018 was among the Three (3) gang leaders captured on CCTV footage and later arrested. Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs was not paraded along with the Five (5) gang leaders now standing trial because he was taken out to arrest other members of the gang and recover the Twenty Two (22) AK 47 Rifles carted away during the Offa Bank Robbery.

  2. Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs was not murdered but slummed and died in detention while investigation into the Offa Bank Robbery was ongoing. There is a post-mortem examination result in respect of the death of Michael Adikwu ‘M’ 30Yrs.

  3. The indictment of the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki from the confessions of the Five (5) gang leaders namely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery was not politically motivated as alleged by Mr. Yusuf Olaniyonu, Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) to the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki to the media, but purely criminal case.

  4. It should be of serious concern to all, that human life is sacrosanct and where investigation has been concluded and suspects arraigned in Court, judicial process must be exhausted and not hindered for the law to take its course in ensuring justice for the families of more than Thirty Three (33) innocent persons including pregnant women that were gruesomely murdered in cold blood by Michael Adikwu and the Five (5) gang leaders Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran arrested, investigated and currently standing trial for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery, than for any individual(s) or any group to attempt futile efforts and desperate distractions to pervert the end of justice is most unfair to the families of the deceased, the State and the society at large.

How NNPC, Finance Minister Withdrew $3.12 Billion From NLNG Account – CBN

HOW NNPC, FINANCE MINISTER WITHDREW $3.12 BILLION FROM NLNG ACCOUNT – CBN
Twenty-two withdrawals totalling $3.12 billion were made from the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) dividends account domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the last three years.
This is according to documents submitted to the Senate Committee on Gas Resources by the CBN in Abuja on Thursday.
Chairman of the committee, Bassey Akpan, read out the figures when officials of the CBN and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) appeared before the committee.
Newsmen reports that the committee was looking into the 1.05 billion dollars that the NNPC admitted withdrawing from the NLNG dividend account to “augment under-recoveries” in the importation of petrol.
NLNG is a gas firm jointly owned by the federal government and three multinational oil companies namely Shell, Total and Eni.
The NNPC, which represents the government in the gas company, holds 49 per cent of the shares.
Shell owns 25.6 per cent, Total 15 per cent and Eni 10.4 per cent.
The lawmakers are angry that the NNPC acted beyond its powers by unilaterally drawing from the NLNG dividends, without recourse to the National Assembly or other tiers of government.
According to them, dividends from the NLNG are supposed to be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation, to be shared among the federal, state and local governments.
But the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Maikanti Baru, told the Senators recently that the corporation acted in line with its establishment act.

According to Mr Baru, Section 7 (4) (b) of NNPC Act empowers the corporation to fund its operations from revenues generated by it.
He said the action was necessitated by the need to sustain the supply of petrol across the country following the withdrawal of independent oil marketers from importation after the stoppage of fuel subsidy in 2016.
At Thursday’s hearing, MR Akpan directed the NNPC, represented by its Chief Financial Officer, Isiaka Abdulrazak, to furnish the committee with all the originating mandates for the 22 withdrawals.
The senator gave the directive after Mr Abdulrazak said upon enquiry from the lawmakers, that the NNPC was the operator of the account.
However, a new twist was added to the matter when Mr Akpan asked the CBN’s Acting Director of Banking Services, Christopher Olomukoro, whether authorisation for withdrawal from the account came from any other entity or government official other than the NNPC.
Mr Olumokoro answered in the affirmative, saying the CBN “also accepts withdrawal mandates from the Minister of Finance”.
“So, who runs the account? Is it a joint account between the NNPC and the Federal Ministry of Finance?” Mr Akpan asked.
The CBN director answered: “No, but the issue here is that the Honourable Minister of Finance also has the power to submit mandates in respect of that account.”
At this point, Mr Akpan said out of the 22 withdrawals, the CBN submitted mandates for only seven, which he said came from the NNPC.
He wondered why the mandates from the minister of finance were not included.

This elicited reactions from members of the committee, who requested for all the 22 withdrawal mandates in custody of the CBN from both the minister and NNPC.
They also directed the NNPC to provide the originating mandates and letters of approvals for its withdrawals from the account.
The committee gave the agencies till November 30 to provide the documents and adjourned sitting till December 4.

No, Jonathan, Obama Had Nothing To Do With You Losing Your 2015 Elections – Prof Moses Ochonu

No, Jonathan, Obama had nothing to do with your losing the 2015 election.

No, Buharists and denialists, Jonathan did not lose the election because of incompetence and corruption. If that were the case, if Nigerian elections were won and lost on competence and probity, Buhari would not even be contemplating reelection, let alone running for it.

Events of the past three years and the behavior of Buharists have demonstrated beyond doubt that Buhari’s victory in 2015 had little to do with competence and integrity, and that political support or rejection in Nigeria is not predicated on ability or integrity.

It is now very clear that what caused Jonathan’s defeat was a regional political realignment against him, namely the north-west alliance forged by Tinubu after he abandoned his 2011 pact with Jonathan.

The fact that many will vote for Buhari in 2019 and that he may win is proof of this reality of elections being about regional electoral calculations rather than the qualities and abilities of candidates.

Had Jonathan been able to keep the Southwest/ Tinubu in his corner, he would have won in 2015 despite his corruption and incompetence.

Buhari will likely win in 2019 despite his corruption and incompetence if he manages to retain his alliance with the dominant political tendency in the Southwest and that alliance translates to majority votes in the region.

How I Was Pressured To Reject 2015 Election Result – Goodluck Jonathan

How I Was Pressured To Reject 2015 Election Result – Jonathan

‘Okonjo-Iweala, Adoke, Chidoka, Dudafa advised me not to accept defeat’

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has revealed how he was pressured not to accept defeat in the 2015 election.

Noting that the election was laden with some irregularities, including the difficulty he faced before he could vote in his native Otuoke, Bayelsa State home, Jonathan said he conceded defeat principally because it was his belief that his ambition should not lead to loss of lives and property as it was the case in previous elections.

He said contrary to some narratives that members of the international community prevailed on him to accept his defeat and congratulate the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the decision came naturally to him as he was aware a day before the announcement of the results that his party was bound to lose.

The revelations are contained in the former President’s book, “My Transition Hours”, which was presented in Abuja yesterday on his 61st birthday.

The book records the last-minute intrigues and political manoeuvres that defined his last moments with top aides and ministers in the Presidential Villa and the relief he felt after he congratulated President Buhari in a telephone conversation.

Jonathan said he rebuffed the advice by the then Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala; Attorney-General of the Federation and Justice Minister Mohammed Bello Adoke; Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka, who was a compere at the book launch; and his Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs, Warpamowei Dudafa.

*He writes: “They were recommending sundry alternatives, but I was quiet in the midst of their discussions. I hugged my thought, figuring out how to do that which was best for the country. My personal interest was receding rapidly and the interest of Nigeria looming large. I excused myself and left the sitting room. I walked into my study. Even there, my mantra was a strong circle around me, supporting and comforting me. Let the country survive. Let democracy survive. My political ambition is not worth people being ‘soaked in blood.”

On how and why he called to concede victory to Buhari, he wrote: “More results flowed in and I could not wait anymore. The announcement of the final result could take issues out of all our hands. It was time for me to take action and bring peace to the nation. I felt I was destined by God at that point in time to inject the peace serum and douse the palpable tension in the country.

“I reached out for his telephone and placed a call through the State House operators at about 4:45pm. A peace I had never felt since my political sojourn descended on me. It showed me where I had been in the past sixteen years and where I was then. I smiled at the thought of what I was about to do. I waited calmly for the person at the end of my call to answer.

Buhari: “Hello Your Excellency.”

Me: “Your Excellency, how are you”

Buhari: “I am alright, Your Excellency.”

Me: “Congratulations.”

Buhari: “Thank you very much Your Excellency.”

With that, the deed was done. Peace like the flow of a soothing river enveloped his heart, Jonathan said.

He continues: “For several seconds, the line was seized by the loudest silence I have ever known. Then we had a brief discussion. I could sense his relief too. He knew what could have been. Here is a man who had contested three times and lost. Maybe my gesture humbled him against his expectations because he thanked me and we talked about the handing over processes.

Elsewhere all over Africa, Asia and other parts of the world, countless deaths have been recorded on the scores of elections and power disputes. l mentioned Cote d’Ivoire earlier, where people died in their thousands during post-election violence. A similar scenario had unfolded in Kenya. African nations are more prone to post-election violence than other parts of the world. Only very few African nations have not experienced post elections violence on a very grand scale or some bitter power tussle fed by tnbal or ethnic sentiments.

I hung up the phone, confident that my decision was right for Nigeria and would probably have a great impact on Africa. This may well be the beginning of a new perspective to power; a perspective which places national interest above personal preference. It should not always be about winning.

“After my coversation with Muhammadu Buhari, which lifted my spirit greatly, I felt better and lighter; it was time to break the news to my Ministers “Id mdes. I wandered back into the living room. These are people I came to know over a period of time. I anticipated what their response would be.

“In my new found calm, I stood before them and told them what I had just done. The elections were over. I had called and congratulated Muhammadu Buhari on his victory. It was time for all of us to move on. Stunned silence greeted the room for some time and after they overcame their shock, they all congratulated me.

“My Aviation Minister, Osita Chidoka, sought my permission to tweet my phone conversation with Buhari. I obliged and he did. The country was no longer waiting for the declaration of the election results. The nationwide tension automatically dissipated as through a red hot piece of iron had been dipped in a bowl of water. Thereafter, I addressed the nation.”

Smart Ajaja Is The Only Viable And Serious Candidate In Delta North Senatorial Race – Gabriel Otioma

SMART MADU AJAJA IS THE ONLY VIABLE AND SERIOUS CANDIDATE IN DELTA NORTH SENATORIAL RACE – Sir Gabriel Otioma

Edit – Comr Destiny Onyebike Oriabioje

The most dangerous thing that can befall a society is fighting against their liberators while they defend their oppressors simply because of what they have been told by those who are benefiting from the oppressors. This single act could lead to misfortune and loss a society will not recover from in hundreds of years.

Nelson Mandela was badly criticized at the earlier stage of his struggle against injustice and demonic apartheid rule in South Africa, even the international communities labelled him as terrorist, but today, same man is greatly celebrated, recognised as a global figure and symbol of freedom.

Some persons today sees Smart Madu Ajaja as an unserious candidate and equally calls his supporters bunch of jokes. The question is, why? Because we represent the new political order which is contrary to the old tradition which has not benefitted mankind, but promote selfish desires and empowers moneybags to callously lead the people into thick darkness.

To some Anioma youths even Nigeria at large, you are seen as unserious candidate if you are not ready to share money to induce voters or not using APC-PDP party platform. A concept which is nothing, but antiquated, history and political ignorance. The professional political business men created hunger so they could easily manipulate the gullible masses to their own advantage through peanut money and pitiable gifts.

Does bribing party delegates to emerge as party flag-bearer makes one serious? Does inducing voters with money equates seriousness and visionary Leadership? Enough of fragile and intellectually bankrupt propaganda. Organize a public debate for your serious candidate with our unserious candidate and I strongly believe this will help the Anioma electorates make SMART decision as this debate will show who is serious and visionary.

Today, what we, (Smart Ajaja’s) supporters celebrates in his life and personality, is his doggedness, spirit of persistency, dedication, determination, indomitable will, simplicity and ruggedity. This is a man who strongly believes that “when the going gets tough, the tough get going”. These uncommon qualities and virtues he posses cannot be taken away from him by any mortal.

I have said several times, if development and growth is what Anioma people needs, Smart Ajaja is the only viable and serious candidate in Delta north senatorial race to be trusted with their votes. He’s eloquent, full of life, compassionate, lover of Anioma land, culture, and always in support of anything that will see the progress of Anioma and Nigeria at large.
