Call Me First Lady From Now On And Not Wife Of The President – Aisha Buhari

The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Thursday, announced her decision to be addressed as the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

She said this would take effect immediately in order to resolve the issue of the title of wives of governors.

Buhari disclosed her new official title at the presentation of awards to the former and current wives of Governors of the 36 states.

The event held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“When my husband was newly elected, I personally chose to be called the wife of the President.

“But, I realised that it causes confusion from the state as to whether the wives of state governors are to be addressed as the first ladies or wives of the governors.

“So, forgive me for confusing you from the beginning, but now I chose to be called the first lady,” she said.

9th Senate: My Support For Lawan Has No Political Attachment – Ifeanyi Ubah

9th Senate: My support for Lawan has no political attachment – Ifeanyi Ubah

The Young Progressive Party (YPP)’s Senator-elect, Mr Ifeanyi Ubah, on Saturday, disclosed that he is not supporting Sen. Ahmad Lawan’s Senate presidential bid for any political gain.
Ubah, who will be representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the 9th Senate, gave the clarification while speaking with newsmen shortly after the party’s stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.
TheCampaigner reports that Sen. Andy Uba (APC), who represented Anambra South in the 8th Senate, his younger brother, Chris Uba (PDP), had filed petitions challenging the outcome of the election at the tribunal.
According to the YPP senator-elect, the insinuation that he is backing Lawan in order to secure his election victory at tribunal is untrue.
”From day one, I have always have my position.
”I have consulted with my party, we looked at his pedigree.
”He was the Senate leader in the 8th Senate and politics is about risk.
”We looked at his resume and we found out that he is the right person to support.
”Even if he never makes it, let us assume but that we don’t pray for, I will still work with him.
”I am the only YPP senator-elect. So I need to form alliance in the Senate and that is what politics is all about,” he said.
Ubah said his support for the All Progressives Congress preferred candidate was a universal practice, even in the United States (US).
He urged the lawmakers-elect to ensure that the election is conducted in a peaceful, free and fair manner.
”We want to have a rancour- free legislature in the ninth Senate. And that is why YPP has a position on whom we are supporting.
”The person who will at least give us that value we are seeking for.
”My words to Nigerians out there is that they should watch the performance of the YPP in the ninth Senate,” he said.
According to him, a journey of a million mile starts with a step and I believe that ninth Senate will be a very good platform for us to demonstrate our competence.
Ubah, who said he was proud to be the pioneer YPP lawmaker, restated that he had no plan to dump the party.
He said YPP was a party to watch in the next election.
”The takeaway from this meeting is that we are strategising on how to takeover and everybody should know that YPP is a party to watch in the next election,” he said.
The National Chairman of the party, Comrade Emmanuel Amakiri, who noted the economic challenges confronting Nigerians, said YPP comprises a new breed of politicians that is ready to bring innovative ideas into Nigerian politics.

Politicians Are The Highest Puchasers Of Illegal Weapons – Suspect

Politicians are our biggest buyers of illegal arms –Suspects

Suspected illegal arms dealers, who were recently arrested by operatives of Inspector General of Police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), have denied selling arms to suspected bandits wreaking havoc in the northern parts of the country. They however added that their customers are Nigerians they refer to as being credible.
The suspects identified as Ojoomo Olugbenga, Oladimeji Adeogun, Habib Musibau and Thomas Olumuyiwa were part of a four man international arms smuggling syndicate and they were arrested on May 25, 2019 at Saki town along Nigeria-Benin Republic border in Oyo State.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mbah, who paraded them before the media, the success of the operation was as a result of unrelenting efforts by IRT operatives headed by a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari who are also part of the Special Forces attached to Operation Puff Adder.
The Inspector –General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, in April, launched Operation Puff Adder along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, tailored towards ridding the country, especially the Kaduna – Abuja Expressway, Kogi, Katsina, Niger and Zamfara States of all forms of crimes and criminality.
He stated that the criminal gang which is alleged to be operating between parts of North Africa, the Sahel region and West African Countries were found with four AK47 rifles, five English pistol and a total of 6000 AK47 live ammunition were recovered from them. Investigation reveals that the syndicate specializes in smuggling small arms, light weapons and ammunition from North Africa through the Sahel region and supplying same to their criminal partners – kidnappers, armed robbers, political thugs and other elements – in Nigeria and other West African countries.
During interrogation at the police station, the suspects confessed that their overall boss is one Outtara Zachariah who is a citizen of and based in Burkina Faso. They alleged that they receive the weapons from Libya and Mali while Zachariah can only be reached through his Nigerian agent simply identified as Soliu. Soliu is a Nigerian but was born and raised in Burkina Faso.
They further alleged that the rifles were usually smuggled into the country by concealing them inside sacks of dried animal skin which is usually imported from Burkina Faso. They claim they also hide the rifles inside yam flour and bags of rice from Benin Republic before transporting them into Nigeria using trucks. They claim to have smuggled thousands of rifles through Niger Republic through borders along Niger, Sokoto and Kastina states.
They also alleged that AK47 rifles and ammunition meant for the eastern part of the country are concealed in large bundles of imported fairly used clothes and transported to Onitsha main market where most of their dealers are based.

Robbers, bandits cannot afford our rifles
One of the suspects, Olugbenga aged 45 insists that he has never sold any weapon to suspected kidnappers from the north. “I am from Akure Central, Ondo state and happily married to one wife and blessed with seven children.
Sometime in 1994, I secured a job in a licensed arms dealer company. I was good at the job till I became the marketing manager. Unfortunately the company closed down after the death of Sani Abacha, the late military ruler. After his death, all the companies that were importing arms in Nigeria lost their license. Naturally, all the companies closed down and those who were still around were doing so illegally.
“I relocated to Oyo state and with the little money I made; I was able to further my education at the Ibadan Polytechnic.
While in school, I linked up with some of my customers who were still buying and selling arms and they told me that I can join them as they now have a direct source from importers abroad.
“This was how I established my base in Ogunpa market in Ibadan, Oyo state. I was buying on whole sale basis from the importers who travel out of the country to source for the weapons. It’s a coded thing because government will deny you if they catch you.
“We operate it as black market all over the country. If you come to that market and ask, someone will surely link you up with us. We have an association and we keep in touch with one another. Our major base is Lagos, Ibadan and Onitsha. If you go to Onitsha main market, you will also find so many dealers there. It is only Lagos that we don’t have a particular location because there are too many policemen and security agencies who are always looking for who to arrest. If you come to Ibadan or Onitsha and ask for a Lagos contact, it will be given. Most of the people in Lagos are retailers. I do not know anything about the north and where they get their supply. If kidnappers are getting weapons, it could be from the local retailers.”
On who their customers are, Olugbenga said that they are high profile Nigerians especially politicians. “Some of my customers are security men especially policemen. They always refer those who applied for arms to me. Those who were given license to bear arms. I guess they will stop since President Buhari has said that no one is allowed to bear arms again in Nigeria. There are also farmers who patronize us but majority of our customers are politicians. During election period, there is always high demand for it and since they already know our contact, they will contact us and we will supply.
“We love selling to politicians especially those that will eventually win the election. This is important because they will be the ones who will eventually protect us in-case of arrest. I do not sell to armed robbers or Fulani herdsmen. I have never done business with those criminals in my life. The truth is that they cannot afford to buy from us. I guess they normally steal from those who bought from us or rented it, except high profile kidnappers who will disguise as a responsible person. The Fulani herdsmen can move in and out of these countries with their cattle. They can buy and smuggle their own weapon themselves. They don’t need to waste money buying AK47 at the sum of N700,000.”
According to Olugbenga, a new pump action rifle is sold for N500, 000 and AK47 is sold at N700, 000 while the pistol is sold as high as N600, 000. “It is expensive, that is why I said that armed robbers cannot spend that amount of money to buy weapon.”
He alleged that most of the pump action rifles are gotten from Turkey while the AK47 rifles are from Burkina Faso. “Our major dealer is based in Burkina Faso but he has an agent that we all know as Soliu. In this line of job, we do not ask for individual details because it’s a sensitive business. Soliu has the contact of the main persons in these countries, our own is to order and he will deliver. The cartridges and double barrel guns are from Ghana and we get them in large quantity easily.
“Normally, the ones from Ghana, they will construct a compartment on the floor of the truck and load it with plenty arms and ammunitions. They will seal it up before loading whatever the people at the border are expected to inspect.
From Burkina Faso, they hide it inside a load of dried animal skin. Nigeria normally imports a lot of it from Burkina Faso, so our suppliers normally move goods to us by hiding them in the sack full of dried animal skin. They normally bring that one through Kwara/Oyo border that links Benin Republic. The others will pack them in container load of contraband products like rice and groundnut oil. Normally the customs and other patrol agencies will concentrate on collecting settlement to allow the rice, groundnut oil or fairly used cloths to enter the country.
“Meanwhile, we also ensure that we partner with security agencies to fight crime. This makes it easier to stop them from scanning the entire container. I am sorry and I wish I had stopped a long time ago. It’s just greed and the amount of money that politicians offer us to get these weapons is so tempting. Please forgive me,” he pleaded.

My customers are credible Nigerians
The second suspect Olumuyiwa, a native of Ado-Odo, Ota, in Ogun state told Saturday Sun that his customers are credible Nigerians. “I started this business 15 years ago. I started by working as a contract staff with one registered firearm company in Lagos. When all the licenses were revoked, we all lost our jobs but some of us who have the capacity continued operating. I can assure you that all my customers in Nigeria are respected and responsible Nigerians. This country is not safe, so these people need these guns to protect themselves and their families.”
He however refused to give out their names insisting that part of his job is to protect the identity of his customers. “They do not have license but they are responsible. If I give you their names, they will no longer patronize me in future. I do not joke with my customers because they will surely save me in times like this. I sell rifles like pump action for as low as N300, 000 and pistol for N600, 000. They can get it cheaper if it’s not brand new. It was the AK47 that I bought from a retired military man that landed me in trouble. I bought it N350, 000 and sold it N400, 000. Unfortunately, the gun entered the wrong hand it was traced to me.”
Just like the retired solider, Olumuyiwa alleged that he normally receives arms from retired security operatives at a very cheap rate but patronises the likes of Olugbenga when there is high demand. “It is only during election period that we have high demand for these weapons and I have to contact the dealers for a larger quantity. I also keep tab on credible security operatives who have retired and have rifles that they want to dispose.”

Step Down For Omo-Agege To Emerge Deputy Senate President- Urhobo Begs Kalu

‘Step Down For Omo-Agege To Emerge Deputy Senate President’ – Urhobo Beg Kalu

The leadership of the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, yesterday, has taken a position by appealing to the senators, President Muhammadu Buhari and the party leaders to endorse Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as soul candidate for the Deputy Senate President position.

The UPU President General, Chief Joe Omene who spoke to newsmen at Mosogar, Ethiope West local government area of Delta state, said Southeast has had its fair share in the leadership of the senate since inception of democracy, so should support Omo-Agege from Southsouth for the Deputy Senate President.

Omene said the likes of Senators Adolphus Wabara, Ken Nnamani, Evan Enwerem, Chuba Okadigbo, Anyim Pius Anyim and others have at one time held the position of the Senate President, before Ekweremadu and the Southsouth has been supportive, expressing surprise why now that a Southsouth senator is contesting, that Sen. Uzor Kalu is coming out to contest for DSP.

He said, “It is on this ground we are appealing to all Southsouth senators irrespective of political party to join hands together to ensure the position does not go out of hand. This is not the time to segregate or divide but to unite to achieve a common goal of the people and growth of Southsouth.

“We also know Mr. President and the party leadership will not fail us in this struggle because it is obvious that Omo-Agege has been tested and his loyalty is not in doubt, it was this we saw that all Urhobos, Deltans and Southsouth are calling on him to come and represent them in that capacity of Deputy Senate President.

“We are on behalf of the Urhobo people at home and in diaspora appealing to Sen. Uzor Kalu and others to pull their weight behind Omo-Agege for the Deputy Senate President for one good turn they say deserves another. Tomorrow we will still be there for either Southeast or Southwest and we have to also reciprocate.

Gbajabiamila Is The Leadership We Can Trust In – Tunji Ojo

Leadership We Can Trust In Gbajabiamila- Wase

Inauguration of the 9th National Assembly as well as the election of the principal officers is only a few days away from now. We the members of the 9th House of Representatives sure have a date with history on Tuesday June 11, 2019 by ensuring that national interest is placed far ahead of all other person interests. We must patriotically endeavour to elect for the House principal officers
that have the capacity to deliver good governance, harmonious working relationship with the executive and sustainable development in the country.

We the Honourable members of the 9th House are lucky so to say due to the fact that a viable and competent leadership choice has already been cut out for us and same choice has been endorsed by the majority members of the House. The manifestly and undeniably competent leadership option before us is Gbajabiamila- Wase. This is a leadership option we can trust to run an all inclusive House that will deliver on impactful legislation and accommodate the interests of all members of the lower legislative chamber across party lines.

For the aspiration of Gbajabiamila-Wase, it has been a torrent of endorsements across party lines. This ticket has since been openly endorsed by serving and immediate past governors of both the ruling All Progressive Congress ( APC) and the leading opposition parties in the country. However, it is particularly instructive that the flood gate of endorsements for Gbajabiamila was opened by President Muhammadu Buhari. The president had made it known at several fora that he could only work comfortably with Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

As the Chairman of the First Timers Forum in the 9th House, I am in the best position to posit that the choice of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila was not imposed on any one of us. Speakership aspiration of Gbaja had been willingly and gleefully embraced by majority members of the House across party lines, even before the light of widespread endorsements was ignited by President Buhari. As an active player in the Gbajabiamila – Wase project, I make bold to declare that
this aspiration has so far secured endorsements of a part of the PDP caucus and other parties. Without being immodest, I can humbly state that this aspiration is victory bound.

The ongoing campaign of calumny on the person of Hon. Gbajabiamila, albeit ineffective one is not totally unexpected. It is however regrettable that wicked and fabricated lies are repeatedly being churned out by a few tantrum throwers to create an illusion of the truth. Meanwhile, the sad news for these mindless elements is that we the concerned actors in the House of Representatives have since made up our minds to swim and stick with Gbajabiamila-Wase leadership.

Moreso, it has become necessary to state emphatically here so as to clear all doubts and further reinforce confidence in the ability Hon. Gbajabiamila that he has never been convicted for any crime in the United States of America, Nigeria or any other country in the whole wide world. It is also an open fact that Hon. Femi has never been accused of corruption and has no corruption charge leveled against him in Nigeria or any where in the whole wide world. The gentleman has never committed perjury nor get convicted for same offence in Nigeria or any nation on the face of earth. What other evidence do we even need on the wicked allegation against Femi Gbajabiamila than the letter of exoneration written by the State Bar of Georgia, in which it was unambiguously stated thus: “There is no criminal conviction in the matter relating to Hon. Femi and he is currently an active member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia”.

Of a particular importance to Gbajabiamila- Wase aspiration was the endorsement and clarification made by the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. He had emphasized on the working chemistry that President Buhari already underscored between himself and Femi Gbajabiamila. The Governor had further cleared the air that it was President Muhammadu Buhari himself that chose Femi Gbajabiamila as the person he could work with in the House of Representatives. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai had also emphasized that the duo of Gbajabiamila and Wase deserved to be Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively on account of being ranking lawmakers with requisite experience to effect the needed reforms and deliver legislative deliverables in 9th Assembly.

The trust reposed in the leadership ability of Gbajabiamila and Wase ticket as well as the evidenced national acceptability of its ‘Rainbow Coalition’ campaign slogan of “Nation Building: A Joint Task” must have informed why a major contender for Speakership of the House, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas stepped down and had since joined forces with the camp of Gbajabiamila and Wase.

It is noteworthy that the torrent of endorsements for Femi Gbajabiamila in particular could not have been witnessed if not for the fact of his being a very competent and dutiful lawmaker as seen in the last 16 years. He is a 5th term member of the House who had served as the Minority Leader as well as the Majority Leader of the House. He is a highly patriotic Nigeria and a loyal party man. Gbajabiamila is a manifestly upright, enviably honest and infectiously competent politician. He has over the years demonstrated his abilities of competency, independent mindedness and the spirit of a team player.

What could be described as an icing on the endorsement cake of Gbajabiamila- Wase campaign was given by a senator-elect and former governor of Abia State, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu. He said, ” You are not Tinubu’s candidate. It is a mistake. You were endorsed by the Commander-in-Chief and President of Nigeria. He told us in an open place, he told all members of the House of the Representatives and he also told all the senators”. The senator- elect had also glowingly described Gbajabiamila as a candidate of every party that is represented in the National Assembly as well as the candidate of the people of Nigeria.

Kalu further said, “You have been endorsed by Mr President; you have been endorsed by the National Working Committee of our party; you have been endorsed by Progressive Governors; you have been endorsed by all levels of our political party and I have no regret, and I am not thinking otherwise in endorsing you as a person and endorsing you from our region,”.

My admonition as a patriotic Nigerian to all my colleagues in the 9th House is to please give the needed cooperation to President Buhari for him to achieve the Next Level Agenda by voting overwhelmingly for Gbajabiamila-Wase as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House on Tuesday June 11. As things stand today, there seems to be no better alternative to Gbajabiamila- Wase if we patriotically hope to rebuilding the economy and deliver economic prosperity to our fellow country men and women.

Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo is a member-elect for Akoko North East/Akoko North West of Ondo State.

Fulani Alone Not Responsible For Kidnappings, Other Tribes Deeply Involved – Falana SAN

Fulani alone not responsible for kidnappings, other tribes deeply involved – Falana

There is insecurity in the land. Kidnappers and bandits are on the prowl. There is an exercise of stereotyping going on, making people to attribute kidnappings to a section of the country, a situation that may impede the efforts of government at all levels to do enough intelligence gathering and carry out wholesale operations that can put the desperadoes at bay. In other words, while it cannot be denied that the Fulani in the North are, on countless occasions, responsible, Nigerians will be making a huge mistake by believing that the Fulani are the only culprits.
That is why Mr Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) said: “Since the Federal and State governments have failed to address the crisis of insecurity, some highly placed individuals have given the impression that Fulani herders alone are responsible for the rising wave of kidnapping in the south-west region. The rumour has continued to spread due to the failure of the state governments in the south-west region to assure the people of the security of their lives. However, our investigation has revealed that the kidnappers terrorizing the people of the south-west zone are drawn from the Fulani, Yoruba, Igbo and some other ethnic groups in Nigeria.”
The investigation has also, according to him, confirmed the involvement of a number of unpatriotic security personnel in the nefarious criminal enterprise. Similarly, some ungodly Pastors and Imams, as he added, have been nabbed for praying for the success of kidnapping and armed robbery operations. Falana argued further that many freed victims had exposed the involvement of French-speaking kidnappers from neighbouring countries. Indeed, not a few criminally minded people have faked abductions of family members or kidnapped innocent children in a desperate bid to dupe their parents.
“While we do not deny the involvement of armed Fulani herders in violent crimes”, Falana maintained, “we have established that some of the most notorious kidnappers including the notorious billionaire kidnapper and his accomplices who were collecting ransom in Dollars, Pounds and Euros until they met their Waterloo in Lagos state last year are not of the Fulani extraction.

Alleged #25Billion Fraud: EFCC Withdraws From Goje’s Case

Alleged N25bn Fraud: EFCC withdraws from Goje’s case

…Hands over to Attorney General

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on Friday took over the case of alleged N25 billion fraud filed against Former Gombe State Governor, Senator Danjuma Goje from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

TheCampaigner reports in Jos that for almost eight years, the EFCC had been prosecuting the former governor until Friday.

The case, which is before Justice Babatunde Quadiri of Jos Federal High Court II, has even gone to the Jos Court of Appeal over the remaining two counts out of the 21 charges filed against him by EFCC.
The Appellate Court is yet to fix a date for the hearing of the appeal.
When the case came up for an emergency hearing before Justice Quadiri, the EFCC Counsel, Mr. Wahab Shittu, told Court that the agency was withdrawing from the case and handing it over the office of the Attorney-General for continuation.

“My Lord, this case was earlier adjourned for June 20 for the continuation of hearing, but then we are here today on the latest development on the matter.

“We as EFCC counsels are withdrawing from the matter and handing it over to the office of the Attorney-General for continuation with the prosecution.

“As you can see in court, is a State Counsel from the AGF’s office to formally take over this case from us,” Shittu declared.

Responding, Mr Paul Erokoro (SAN), did not object to the EFCC withdrawal and handing over of the case to the Attorney-General.

“My Lord, we do not object to the anti-graft agency’s withdrawal and handing over the prosecution to the AG’s office,” Erokoro said.

Mr Pius Asika, Counsel from the office of the Attorney General announced his appearance for the case.

Asika then applied for an adjournment to enable him to prepare for the case proper “having come into the matter  On (Friday)”.

Justice Quadiri then adjourned to the case to June 21, 2019 for continuation of hearing.
